How to Change the PHP Version in cPanelPrint

  • 0

If your website’s acting a bit wonky or you’re installing something that needs a specific version of PHP, don’t panic—you don’t need to be a tech wizard to fix it. Changing your PHP version in cPanel is super easy, and this guide will walk you through it step by step.

Whether you're a total beginner or just nervous around tech, Essex Web Hosts has got your back. This guide will take you from “what’s PHP?” to “sorted” in just a few clicks.

Step What to Do Screenshot
1 Log in to your cPanel. https://<yourdomain>:2083/
2 Once you're inside cPanel, scroll down until you see the section labelled Software.
3 Click on Select PHP Version or MultiPHP Manager – depending on your hosting setup.
4

If you chose Select PHP Version, a screen will show your current version. Use the dropdown to choose a new version (e.g. PHP 8.1).

Please note that some hosts set this at a administrative level. So you would need to set the PHP version on the specifically for the domain as in step 6

5 Click Set as current or Apply to confirm your change.
6 If you’re using MultiPHP Manager tick your domain, select the PHP version from the dropdown on the right, then hit Apply.
7 Done! You’ve just updated your PHP version. Your website will now run using the new version.
